Our favourite homemade cold and sniffle remedies

We can run a bit of a gauntlet with winter nasties during this season, and often, despite our best efforts, we bump into a big stinker of a head cold. To help you through, we’ve got some home remedies for you try out. They may not cure but they can ease you through the symptoms as you tuck yourself up under the duvet to scroll through your next escape to a Devon retreat.

 

This is the perfect warm sip to soothe away a sore throat or cough. You can add whisky (if you’re over 18) and even better, it’s super easy to make and ready in minutes!

 

Hot Toddy

 

Fresh lemon juice

Honey

Root ginger, grated

Hot water

Whisky(optional)

 

Step 1: Boil water and mix with honey

Step 2: Stir in lemon juice (& ginger for an extra kick to that cold)

Step 3: Add whisky if using and drink straight away

 

Cold Busting Tea

 

All that’s needed are some herbal ingredients you probably already have in your cupboard –simple, natural and way cheaper than an over-the-counter cough syrup.

 

Root ginger, peeled

1 tbsp apple cider vinegar

¼ fresh lemon

1 tbsp honey

1.5 cups of water

 

Step 1: Peel a knob of ginger and slice it up.

Step 2: Add it to the water, bring to the boil and simmer for 5 mins.

Step 3: Squeeze lemon juice into a mug. Add vinegar and honey

Step 4: Pour in ginger water and combine (leave gingers slices in for stronger flavour)
