It’s Mocktail-Cocktail O’clock!

Creating delicious summery drink flavours to serve up when you spend time with friends and loved ones, is a fun way to add summer vibes to some alfresco dining in the garden!

 

Whether you’re making them for guests or for yourself, alcohol-free options are now plentiful these days, and they can feel just as fun to make, drink and look at, as our alcoholic counterparts!

 

That’s why we’ve added some of our favourite ‘summertime in a glass’ cocktail and mocktail recipes together, to help create that relaxing sunshine mood at your next summer party or BBQ!

 

Frozen Mint Lemonade

 

Ingredients

 

1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, plus 4 small sprigs to use as garnish.

1/4 cup sugar

4 fresh lemon juice

3/4 cup cold water

4 cups ice

 

Method

 

Step 1: In a blender, combine the lemon juice, water, mint and sugar. Blend until the sugar has completely dissolved into the liquid.

 

Step 2: Add the ice. Blend until you’ve reached a slushy texture. (If the mixture is too thick to blend, let it rest for 5 minutes, stir by hand, and try again.) Pour into glasses and place a sprig of mint in each. Serve immediately.

 

Non-Alcoholic Aperol Spritz Mocktail

 

Ingredients

 

80ml fresh orange juice, without pulp

60ml fresh grapefruit juice

30ml fresh cherry juice

60ml mineral water or tonic water

1 slice orange and 1 sprig thyme, garnish

 

Method

 

Step 1: Add ice to a large wine glass.

 

Step 2: Pour in the grapefruit juice, orange juice, and cherry juice. Top with mineral/tonic water.

 

Step 3: Garnish with an orange slice and sprig of thyme.

 

PassionfruitMojito

 

Ingredients

 

8 fresh passion fruit

¼ cup fresh mint leaves, plus extra for garnish

5 tbsps granulated sugar

175ml light rum

6 tbsps lime juice, fresh

4 - 5 ice cubes plus more for glass

Club soda

 

Method

 

Step 1: Cut open the passion fruit and push through a fine mesh strainer to catch all the juice.Get as much juice and pulp from the passion fruit as possible. Reserve the seeds. Set the juice aside.

 

Step 2: In a cocktail mixer, muddle the mint and the sugar together to help release the oils from the mint. Add the rum, lime juice, and ice, then shake vigorously.

 

Step 3: Add ice to your glass and divide the mixture among the glasses. Top with a splash or two of club soda and stir in the passion fruit juice/pulp. Top with mint and passion fruit seeds for garnish.

 

Radish andCelery Bloody Mary

 

Ingredients

 

100ml vodka

50ml sherry

½ tbsp horseradish, freshly grated

25ml Worcestershire sauce

Tabasco, to taste

½ tsp celery salt

Cracked black pepper, to taste

750ml tomato juice

500g ice cubes

100g radishes, sliced

1 lime, cut into wedges

4 celery sticks, garnish

 

Method

 

Step 1: Mix together the vodka, sherry, horseradish, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco, celery salt, black pepper and tomato juice in a large jug.

 

Step 2: Fill another large jug with the ice, sliced radishes and lime wedges.

 

Step 3: Pour the liquid over the ice and serve straight away in chilled glasses with celery sticks in them.
